AI Utopia: What about us? Dance and martial arts.
Lately I find myself thinking about the win conditions of an AI utopia.
That is, asking myself the question: assuming we succeed at AI alignment and we get a system that can do any economically valuable task at human performance or better[1], what about us?
The catalysts:
- Being more and more impressed by AI improvements and capabilities.
- After the success of Superintelligence, exploring AI paths and dangers,
Bostrom recently wrote Deep Utopia, exploring "life and meaning in a solved
world".

- @antirez talking about this more and more on his yt channel. [7]
To my mind:
- Should/would we get universal basic/high income?
- How/would the people who crave more wealth be able to accumulate it?
- How should/will people spend the time they previously spent working?
Harari's idea that we would lose our cognitive hedge to AI, and should leverage our physical and social hedge practicing things like martial arts[2] sounds reasonable. Being a dancer, dance immediately came to my mind when I hears about Harari's martial arts idea. I think it's a great martial arts alternative in this context that may feel distant and be overlooked at first.
It also sounds reasonable that we should create more communities and restore pre-internet social habits (regardless of AI taking over).
My friends [5] providing community and ospitality to people moving to San Francisco for professional reasons, many times leaving their communities overseas, are a great example of this. Also [3] and [4] make me think about this.
My mission from 2021, when I was 17 and learned to code for the first time [6], doesn't change by a bit:
> Let's build friendly and powerful AI to take over the world to we have more and more time to dance and play together.
Wall-E style stagnation began 10+ years ago. Don't wait for the AI utopia to start living this way.
